Consider your current situation
| ? | Do you have recruitment industry experience and genuinely enjoy the industry? |
| ? | Have you had a management/business development role previously? |
| ? | Have you successfully developed a branch/division for an agency? |
| ? | Are you motivated by the ability to directly benefit from your efforts and success? |
| ? | Do you think you could run your own agency? |
Consider your options
A. You could continue on working as an employee in the industry.
While potentially less risky, this may not overcome your desire to get more rewards out of your own efforts and success in the industry. Hence it is likely that you will move from agency to agency trying to find an employee/employer relationship that fits with your desires to gain more from your success.
B. You could start your own agency (eg Jones & Co Recruitment).
Well there is obviously no shortage of people doing this given that there are over 3,000 agencies in Australia. Starting your own agency is a relatively easy thing to do – you could even do it from your own home. This is certainly a real option and if your business model is to concentrate on low volume, high value permanent recruitment then it may well make sense. If, on the other hand, you are looking to build a business of substance, maybe supplying both temporary and permanent staff and being more than a ‘one man band’ type business then proceed with caution.
As said before, it is very easy to start an agency and where the difficulties lie is in running it as it gets bigger and bigger. Will you spend more time caught up in non-income producing activities rather than being able to build your business? As your business grows, how will you be able to gain and retain clients that need support on a national level and how will you credibly offer recruitment at all levels of employment to your clients?
Additionally, what are you going to do when you wish to exit? In most cases the value of a ‘Jones & Co Recruitment’ type business is lost when Jones is exiting the business.
C. You could start your own agency through buying an Extrastaff Franchise.
This option combines your desire to own and operate your own agency with the tools and systems necessary to do so. Rather than you having to ‘re-invent the wheel’ an Extrastaff franchise provides franchisees with a turnkey solution and gives structured support during set-up and the on-going operation of the franchise.
All back office administration and payroll is centralised allowing franchisees to focus on recruitment sales and local business development. What’s more, our Recruit Online system will give you Candidate Management, CRM, Sales Reporting, Flexicruit, OH&S systems and Consultant Management tools.
An Extrastaff franchise represents a genuine option for all people seeking to start a recruitment agency and covers all life cycles of start up, running, growing and selling a recruitment business.
